Everyone who writes is a writer: thus we are all writers Writers learn to write (and develop as writers) by writing: thus writers learn from the experiences (good and bad) of their writing Writers keep track of their experiences—with the world, with ideas, with their own writing: thus the importance of the writer’s notebook or journal Writers develop their writing over time, in a process of exploring and composing and revising, working individually and with other writers: thus the workshop Writers communicate through their writing and seek audiences for their work: thus the importance of publication
Well, now you have done it. In your participation in “The Writer’s Experience” course, you have experienced what writers do, how and why you write. There is no going back. From this day forward, you will be what you are already becoming. Whatever that writing might be and wherever that writing might take place, in school or at home, in an essay about a novel assigned to you or in a novel you write that will be read by future students, whatever and wherever, you are a writer.
Should there be any further doubt, this publication, Summer Skating, inspired by the work and words of writers past and the presence of your writing, today, is proof enough. Come back at anytime to recall and remember and keep writing. Best wishes, Dr. Meehan English Department / Morningside College |
