Morningside Speech Club
End of Year Report, 2008
Accomplishments
- The fall kick-off recruitment party attracted six students. Officers were elected including Miranda Galvin as President, April Parkison as Vice President, Nick Miller as Secretary, and Avonelle Stolze as Treasurer. After recruitment, meetings were well attended for the first half of fall semester with Dr. Leslie Werden as advisor.
- We attended three competitions: TCFL #1 in Bloomington, MN; TCFL #3 in Bloomington, MN; and the Doane Nut in Omaha, NE. Galvin, Parkison, Miller, and new recruit Krystal Shearer competed in poetry, prose, and duo (respectively). Werden also judged at two of the three meets.
- The group was consistent in meeting every other week to stay in touch and prepare.
- The group also participated in the Activity Fair and COE weekends.
- Galvin met with prospective high school students during her work in admissions to discuss the possibility of joining speech.
- Werden initiated a discussion with admissions to begin a scholarship program for incoming students interested in joining the speech team.
- The website is being updated, the materials library was expanded, and promotional materials were created.
- An end of year informational party has been scheduled for April 16, and the group expects to provide info about the plan for next year's club/team as well as recruit for the 2008-2009 season.
