Alexander the Great

By Alex Kin

Imagine being Alexander the Great…who me?  No, I’m just named after this famous man.

My first name is Alexander and I was named after Alexander the Great.  My mom always wanted me to be like him.  He was fearless, not afraid to fight for what was right.  He was also a great leader…. (Mom, I’m not sure that is ever going to happen.)

I remember a time when I was about three or four years old.  My mom put me on the swings.  At first, I loved the cool breeze in my face and my feet high in the air.  All of a sudden, I went too high.  I started to panic.  I told my mom to stop, but she didn’t listen.

I knew what I had to do.  With one kick and the letting go of my hands, I went soaring into the air.  I wished I could soar forever, but I knew it would soon end.

Gravity took its hold and pulled me to the ground.  I landed with a thud.  My body was imprinted in the sand.  Man, did that hurt!  When I got up, my mom started laughing, and Alexander the Great did not see what was so funny.

Then my mom got serious and said in a stern voice, “If you ever want to come here again, I must ask you never to do that again.”

Some Alexander the Great I am!
