About Dave's Educational Web Pages

My own personal (lack of) agenda

One should always be skeptical of anything one reads on the web, and web pages about physics are no exception. Some physics web sites I've come across are made by people who are pushing their own theory of how the universe works, and who have turned to the internet for a whole new audience because mainstream physicists have dismissed them.

In my educational web pages, I try to present the "mainstream" view of the topics I've chosen. That is, I believe most physicists would agree with most of what I say. (Though I hope my presentation exhibits some creativity or uniqueness.)

My credentials

The web is a very democratic (or anarchic) medium. That is, any whacko can post a web page that says anything. So when one finds information on the web, it should be routine to ask "Who is this guy and what are his credentials?" (You should, I think, become immediately suspicious of anyone who's annoyed at being asked.)

Well, I'll save you the trouble in my case: Dave Slaven received a B.S. in Physics from Creighton University in 1983 and a Ph.D. in Theoretical High Energy Physics from Iowa State University in 1990. Since then he has taught physics at Iowa State, Drake University, Drury College, Saginaw Valley State University, and now at Morningside College.
