Project Unlimited Proficiency (PUP) is a federally funded professional development opportunity for teachers of culturally and linguistically diverse students. The project will provide 18 hours of graduate ESL coursework for 2 groups of 30 teachers in the Sioux City Community School District and schools in Northwest Area Education Agency. Teachers who successfully complete the coursework will qualify for the ESL endorsement in Iowa. Individuals accepted into this program will complete the coursework in 2½ years, with the first group began in the fall of 2007.
Individuals accepted into the Project Unlimited Proficiency program also have the option of earning the Professional Educator master’s degree by taking the additional 18 hours of the Professional Foundations Core. The 18 hours of ESL coursework fulfill the requirements of the Professional Teaching Core.
The next rotation of classes in Project Unlimited Proficiency will begin September 2009. Applications for admission to the PUP program are currently being accepted, with selection of participants taking place July 1, 2009. |
