FACULTY
Larry D. Sensenig, Professor and Chair of Psychology

Dr. Sensenig joined the faculty at Morningside in 1974. He teaches courses in introductory and experimental psychology, learning and memory, behavior modification, biopsychology, the history of psychology, and Passport. He holds Morningside's Daniel Starch Endowed Chair in Psychology and has served as faculty representative to the Board of Directors. He was voted by students as the Morningside College Faculty Person of the Year for the academic year 1991-1992 and received the Charles and Lucille Wert Faculty Person of the Year award for the academic year 2000-2001.

Dr. Sensenig has a bachelor's degree from Bradley University and a master's degree and doctorate in experimental psychology from Iowa State University . He is a member of several professional organizations and received the Midwest Regional Faculty Advisor Award from the Psi Chi National Council for the 2005-2006 academic year.

Susan Burns , Assistant Professor of Psychology

Dr. Burns joined the faculty at Morningside College in 2002. She teaches general psychology, developmental psychology, child and adolescent psychology, theories of personality, psychology of gender, experimental psychology, statistics, and passport.

Beyond her course load, Susan actively encourages students to become engaged in the research process. Her personal research interests include psychological and physiological responses to violent and non-violent videogames, correlates and predictors of homophobia, attachment security between preschoolers and their mothers, and academic dishonesty. Dr. Burns was selected as a recipient of the 2004 Sharon Walker Faculty Excellence Award, the 2006 state of Iowa, American Association of University Women Distinguished Faculty Award recipient, and the Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society 2006 Faculty Person of the Year.

Dr. Burns received her B.S. and M.S. in Experimental Psychology from Emporia State University (Emporia, KS) and her Ph.D. in Personality/Social Psychology with an emphasis in Child Development from Kansas State University (Manhattan, KS). Most recently Dr. Burns has been selected to serve as the Managing Editor for the Journal of Psychological Inquiry.


Kimberly Christopherson, Assistant Professor of Psychology

Dr. Christopherson joined the Morningside faculty in 2007.  She currently teaches courses in general psychology, developmental psychology, and cognitive psychology.  Her areas of interest include educational and cognitive psychology.  She is primarily interested in the design and use of different technologies in the classroom to help promote student learning in higher education.

Dr. Christopherson received her bachelor's degree from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, and her master's and doctorate from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND.  She has published research in educational psychology journals and is a member of the American Psychological Association, The Association for Psychological Science, and the American Educational Research Association.


Jack Hill, Associate Professor of Psychology

Dr. Hill joined the Morningside faculty in 1990 and teaches counseling, group counseling, and psychological testing. His primary research interests include the philosophical aspects of psychology and the philosophy of science. He has served on a number of committees at Morningside including the Promotions and Tenure Committee, Faculty Senate, and the Academic Policies Committee. He was co-director of Morningside's Interdepartmental Honors program from 1994 to 1997 and again from 1999 to 2003.

Dr. Hill has a bachelor's degree in psychology from Manchester College and a master's degree and doctorate in counseling psychology from Southern Illinois University. He is a member of Psi Chi, the American Psychological Association, the Council of Teachers of Undergraduate Psychology, and the United States Chess Foundation.


John Pinto, Professor of Psychology

Dr. Pinto joined the Morningside faculty in 1981 and teaches mainly social psychology and organizational psychology courses. He is also adjunct faculty in the Mathematics Department and teaches statistics. His areas of interest include leadership, the death penalty, jury selection, and jury decision making. He has served on various committees at Morningside including chair of Morningside's Curriculum Policies Committee and the Assessment Work Group, co-chair of the Academic Task Force, Faculty Athletic Representative, and faculty representative to the Board of Directors, among others.

Dr. Pinto holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Lamar University in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and a doctorate from Oklahoma State University in Social Psychology. He has published and presented scholarly articles both nationally and internationally and has served as a reviewer for several journals including the Psi Chi Journal of Undergraduate Research and the Journal of Business and Psychology
