ACTIVITIES

Psi Chi: This is the National Honor Society for psychology majors and minors. Students must have a 3.25 grade point average after taking twelve hours of psychology coursework (8 of these 12 hours must be taken at Morningside) and a 3.0 overall grade point average to be invited to join. It is truly an honor to be invited to join this organization. Initiations are held each semester. Students organize guest speakers, work on national and local projects, attend conferences, and engage in fund raising activities. Visit our web site.

Undergraduate Psychological Association (UPA): Anyone with an interest in psychology (including non-majors) may take part in this organization. It is a great way to get to know students with the same interests that you may have. The members get together throughout the year. Members often take part in community projects, have bake sales to raise money, and travel to conventions.

Psych Follies: This is a yearly departmental "happening". Students and faculty get together at a local restaurant to take a humorous look at each other. Students "roast" the faculty, and then the faculty "roast" the students. There is a serious side to the evening when the department presents scholarships to the top senior psychology majors. This event is lots of fun, so make sure you don't miss it. We encourage all psychology students to attend.

Palmer Undergraduate Research Symposium: This annual event is sponsored by the Psychology Department. The purpose is to give students from across the campus an opportunity to present scholarly work and research findings to a public audience. A key-note speaker will always give an address. All psychology majors participate.

Freshman/Transfer Meeting: This is a required meeting of all freshman and transfer psychology majors with the purpose of informing them about departmental protocol. You will be introduced to all the psychology professors as well as the activities and organizations to be involved in.

Senior Meeting; this is a required meeting of all senior psychology majors held early during the fourth year of study. The purpose of this meeting is to review graduation requirements and expectations regarding the departmental written proficiency requirement. Deadlines are reviewed.

Senior Psychology Major Questionnaire: Each year all senior psychology majors are asked to fill out a questionnaire that helps the department evaluate courses, career options, and future plans.
