Medical Technology

A medical technologist is a member of the healthcare team who performs a wide variety of scientific fact-finding tests in the clinical laboratory. Students desiring a career in medical technology should complete approximately 90 semester hours as a foundation for a clinical year of courses and practical lab experience at a hospital program. In addition to Morningside’s general studies requirements, the medical technology major includes 4 semester hours of microbiology, 4 of immunology, 4 of human anatomy, 4 of general physiology, 4 of genetics, 8 of general chemistry, 8 of organic chemistry and 4 of statistics. Morningside College maintains affiliations with two accredited institutions, Mercy Medical Center and St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, so that students may complete their clinical year locally if they meet admissions requirements. Admission to hospital programs is competitive and requires a minimum GPA of 2.8.
