Law schools do not expect students to take a particular major. They expect that students will enter with a historical sense and strong skills in critical thinking, reading, writing, and speaking. For upper-level study in such areas, Morningside offers small classes that permit plenty of chances for discussion, critical debate, and thoughtful response to student writing.
Morningside students have been admitted to law schools with majors as diverse as political science, history, philosophy, English, psychology, biology, and business administration. For students interested in investigating careers in law, Morningside offers an interdisciplinary minor and a cluster in legal studies. Morningside also supports a Mock Trial team, which competes in regional and national tournaments. Having the Woodbury County Court and a United States District Court seat in Sioux City, as well as multiple law firms, opens up internship and job shadowing opportunities in law-related careers as part of their college experience. Morningside has a long-standing record of placing students in fine national and regional law schools. In the recent past, our students have been admitted at Baylor, Creighton, Drake, Hamline, Notre Dame, and the Universities of Iowa, Minnesota, and South Dakota.
Careers in law can be very diverse and demanding. Life at Morningside, which combines a challenging academic program with opportunities for participation in career-related activities, offers excellent training for the prospective lawyer. Any student interested in a career in law is encouraged to meet with the pre-law advisor. For more information on what the law schools themselves have to say, we suggest that you refer to the publication “The Official Guide to U.S. Law Schools” for the current year.
