Mr. Joseph Shufro is the orchestra conductor and Associate Professor of Cello at Morningside College. He has been on the Morningside College faculty since 1977 and teaches cello and various classes in music theory and literature. He also established the Morningside Electronic Music Lab and teaches classes in its use. In addition to his responsibilities at Morningside, Mr. Shufro is music director and conductor of the Siouxland Youth Symphony. He is principal cellist of the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra and has appeared both as soloist and guest conductor with that orchestra. He taught previously at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and Lakehead University in Canada. He was a member of the Canadian Chamber Ensemble and Trio Da Capo. A native of New York City, Mr. Shufro did his undergraduate study at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and received his Master's degree from the University of Texas at Austin. His principal teacher at both institutions was George Neikrug.
