As the Christmas season rolls around, the time of giving begins yet again. The Psychology National Honor Society, Psi Chi is helping to give back to the community by starting a Winter Clothing Drive here at Morningside. Since November 12 boxes have been laid out in the hallways of all the major buildings on campus. They will be out until December 12.
Psi Chi is encouraging students and faculty to donate any winter clothing, such as mittens, hats, scarves and socks, to the Crittenton Center’s Youth Shelter. The library will even forgive library fees for donations that are left in the boxes in the library. Psi Chi has donated to different shelters in past years, but this is the first time they have donated to The Crittenton Center.
The Crittenton Center was founded in 1895 and has pioneered services to children and families in need in the Siouxland area for over 100 years. The Crittenton Center strives to strengthen and empower youth and families through a wide range of high quality, family focused, child centered and community based programs. There are currently more than 20 programs and services being offered.
The goal of Psi Chi is to donate as much as they can to the shelter, so they need your help.
Psi Chi President Tareyn Moss, a senior, said “This is the time of year where several shelters are in need of help with donations to make the holidays a better time for everyone they support. I’m just glad our group can be part of making lives better.”
Moss along with fellow leaders of this event—senior Sabrina Higgans, junior Aly Ahrens, and senior Hollie Vaughan—have helped to coordinate this event and are in charge of monitoring the boxes. Their group has been very good at sharing the work for this event to make this Winter Clothing Drive run smoothly.
Psi Chi members also have a Christmas tree in the Olsen Student Center. You can help the members of Psi Chi to “decorate” the tree with your donations of hats, scarves, mittens, and socks. The tree is located right inside the door of the cafeteria and will be there until December 12th. Donation boxes are as close as the nearest campus building, so help Psi Chi give back to the community and donate all your unused winter clothing! (Dec. 5)
