It’s March Madness time again, and as usual my bracket has already been sacrificially burned after several upsets, making winning my bracket pool a pipe dream. We all know that hindsight is 20/20, so basketball knowledge be damned, I am going to step in the time machine and give you a four step approach to success in filling out this year’s bracket.

  Pickett and Stevenson join Jager for 2009 campaign

After finishing twelth in this year’s NAIA National Wrestling Tournament, the Morningside Mustang wrestling team will welcome two new coaches to try to climb the ladder in next season’s tournament. Seniors Jared Pickett and Jake Stevenson will be back to head coach Tim Jager as assistant wrestling coaches.

These feats, alongside national tournament appearances, are how the Morningside Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams have permanently left their mark on the walls of Allee Gym, and on the hearts of Morningside students and fans forever.

March in Sioux City seemed nothing like spring this year, but the Morningside Mustangs women’s softball team sure got a nice spring break feel as they traveled down to Tucson, Arizona to partake in the Tucson Invitational.

  Men Hoping to Improve and Rebound at Nationals

The Morningside men’s basketball team was handed their third loss of the season on Saturday afternoon by inner-city rivals Briar Cliff University after a chilly second half of shooting 69-66.  Briar Cliff shot 60.9 percent, while the Mustangs made 37.5 percent of their shots.

  Wrestlers Set Sights on National Titles

The Morningside Wrestling team will end the 2007-2008 season with 12 wrestlers competing in the NAIA National Wrestling Tournament starting today with finals scheduled for Saturday night at the Tyson Event Center here in Sioux City.

  Baseball Season Underway with a Swing of Victories

The snow was melting Tuesday hinting and teasing at the signs of spring.  Spring means the grass turns green and the snow unveils ball diamonds that have been too long neglected.  Soon to follow will be the crack of wood and the thud of leather.  For sports fans, this means it is baseball season.  The Morningside Mustangs are already in preseason play as they have traveled to warmer climates and indoor facilities to win five of their six games as of Wednesday.  Two of those wins came Tuesday against regionally ranked Dakota State University, who is third, by the scores of 4-2 and 2-1.

  Softball heads to Tucson for Invite

The Mustang softball team is coming off an extraordinary season in 2007, winning the GPAC (Great Plains Athletic Conference) and finishing second at the NAIA Region III Championship, but it is 2008, and a new season, and the Morningside women are looking to finish even better this season. In a preseason poll of GPAC coaches the Mustang squad was picked to finish first place in the conference again this year.

The Morningside grapplers competed in their last tournament of the year, the NAIA National Wrestling Tournament.  The Mustangs took 12 wrestlers in to competition and finished with three All-Americans, the most since starting the team back up in 2004.  The place winners were; Cody Dennis placed sixth at 125 pounds, Jake Stevenson was third at 184 pounds and Cole Wilson was eighth at 197 pounds respectively.
