  It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

It’s that time of year—lights, decorations, snow, and mistletoe! With Christmas just around the corner, Morningside is getting festive and working hard to make it a great holiday on campus. Greenery has already been hung around campus, along with lighting the tree in front of Roadman, so in the evening it can be seen twinkling and reminding everyone that yes, it is December.(Dec. 5)

  Two groups initiate new members into Greek ‘family’

Around campus you may have noticed many students wearing a variety of T–shirts supporting the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. They are a family through a bond of similar traits as they strive to raise money for medical disabilities such as breast cancer and arthritis research. They are not only friends but brothers and sisters. (Dec. 5)

  Donate winter clothing to the Psi Chi drive

As the Christmas season rolls around, the time of giving begins yet again. The Psychology National Honor Society, Psi Chi is helping to give back to the community by starting a Winter Clothing Drive here at Morningside. Since November 12 boxes have been laid out in the hallways of all the major buildings on campus. They will be out until December 12. (Dec. 5)

  Roommates: Ya' gotta love them!  
  Friendships are the first fact of college adjustment

A new freshman puts clothes into her closet and tries to stay out of her roommate’s way while she does the same. Her stomach is knotted with nerves, beginning the school year. Hugging her parents goodbye, she wonders what she’s gotten herself into by coming to college.

Can’t live with ‘em, can’t laugh without ‘em

When many students come to college, the roommate incites fear and excitement. A good roommate may turn into a great friend who creates a college experience full of laugher, wonderful memories, and true friendship. They can even make the transition from home to school easier by providing a support system and social circle. On the other hand, a bad roommate can turn college into a living nightmare with never–ending frustrations. (Nov. 13)

  Beah shares with M’Side his story of life as a boy soldier

The Morningside community had a wonderful opportunity to gain a better understanding of a different culture last week. Ishmael Beah, author of A Long way Gone, spoke to the college about his experiences as a child growing up in a civil war. The book was given to incoming freshmen last summer and has been discussed in Passport classes this fall. (Oct. 31)

  Step Right Up! Delta Sig raises $4,600 in stand against breast cancer

Delta Sigma Phi sure did Stand Against Breast Cancer. With at least one of the Sigs standing on a box at all times from Monday, October 6, at 12:00am until around 7:30pm on Saturday, October 11 (139+ hours) they raised $4,600. The brothers of Delta Sig stood on a big green box outside of the Olsen Student Center in rain and sun as people walked by to donate to this amazing fund. Students could have gotten their picture taken on the box with one of the fraternity brothers and they could e-mail them to the students. (Oct. 16)
