Joseph Shufro

Joseph Shufro, a Morningside Faculty member since 1977, teaches cello and conducts the Siouxland Youth Symphony. He also teaches various classes in music theory and literature. He is principal cellist of the Sioux City Symphony and has appeared both as soloist and guest conductor with that orchestra. He taught previously at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and Lakehead University in Canada. He was a member of the Canadian Chamber Ensemble and Trio da Capo. A native of New York City, Shufro did his undergraduate study at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and received his master's degree from the University of Texas-Austin. His principal teacher at both institutions was George Neikrug.
