Melissa Cummins,
Executive Director, Woodwinds
| Melissa Cummins is a veteran teacher most recently from eastern Missouri. She earned her Bachelor of Education Degree from Norhtwest Missouri State University where she studied conducting with Alfred Sergel. Her Master of Music Education Degree is from Southeast Missouri State University where she studied with Robert Gifford. She has also studied conducting with James Croft, Mallory Thompson, and Quincy Hilliard and clarinet with Anthony Pasquali and in master classes with Himie Voxman and Richard Stoltzman, among others. As a woodwind specialist and band director, her students have achieved many successes at the district and state levels on solos and in small ensembles. She has also been an active adjudicator in Missouri and Illinois. | ![]() |
Jay O'Leary,
Woodwinds
Jay O'Leary received both his Bachelor of Music Education and Doctor ofMusical Arts degrees from the University of Colorado and his Master of Music from Boston University. He has studied clarinet, flute, oboe and other woodwind instruments with members of the New York Philharmonic as well as the Boston, Chicago, and Colorado Symphonies. He is a former Associate Principal Clarinet of the U.S. Army Field Band of Washington D.C. O'Leary is currently principal oboe with the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra and an adjunct faculty member at Morningside College. |
