Symphonette:
An elementary level string orchestra open to young students who have a basic technical foundation on the instrument and ability to read simple musical notation. Students should be able to play 1-octave scales and perform a piece Suzuki Book 1 (“Perpetual Motion” or more advanced). Jungho Kim serves as Symphonette conductor.
Philharmonia:
An intermediate level orchestra performing a variety of repertoire including arrangements of standard symphonic repertoire, lighter classical, semi-popular works and chamber ensembles. String players should be able to play 2-octave scales and perform a solo piece at Suzuki Book 3 level. or equivalent. Wind players should be able to perform a solo piece appropriate for a solo or ensemble contest. Students are primarily middle and high-school age. Morningside College faculty member Dan Auerbach is the conductor.
Youth Symphony:
An advanced level orchestra performing standard symphonic repertoire. Students are primarily age 14 through college. String players should be able to play 3-octave scales and perform a solo piece at Suzuki Book 6 level or equivalent. Wind players should be able to perform a solo piece equivalent to an All-State required etude. Morningside College faculty member Joseph Shufro directs the orchestra.
