PROGRAMS

The mission of the graduate program at Morningside College is the improvement of teaching in elementary and secondary classrooms. To carry out this mission, Morningside College offers the graduate degree program, Master of Arts in Teaching, as well as a variety of graduate endorsements. The program assist in-service teachers in continuing to develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that are characteristic of the Effective Educator. It prepares them to be educational leaders and role models for other teachers and staff in their schools. All degree and endorsement sequences are approved by the Iowa Department of Education.

Learning Outcomes of the Graduate Program

At the graduate level, the Effective Educator:

  • Locates, analyzes, and synthesizes research to address classroom or curricular issues.

  • Plans, conducts, and reports research that addresses classroom or curricular issues.

  • Provides leadership and collaborates with others.

  • Uses technology to support learning.

  • Understands current trends, practices and issues in education.

All hours counted toward a master’s degree must be graduate hours, and the degree must be completed within a 7-year time limit.  Hours counted toward an endorsement may, in most cases, be a combination of graduate and undergraduate hours and do not have time limits.
