Options to Add an Endorsement
This site provides information on the four options for adding an endorsement to your teaching license.
Adding an Endorsement Through Morningside College
After the program requirements for an endorsement have been completed, you will want to add the endorsement to your existing teaching license right away.
Please do the following steps to add the endorsement:
- Go to the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE) Web page (http://www.state.ia.us/boee/)
- Click on Apply for a License link at the top of the page
- Click on Teacher or Administrator Licensure (Iowa Institution)

- Print the Application for Licensure (Iowa Institution) form
- Complete Section I of the application (indicates To Be Completed By Applicant) – Make sure that you sign and date it in the appropriate location
- Make a check out to the Board of Educational Examiners for the required amount of money (listed on the application)
- Send the application and check to:
- Janet Chobar, Licensure Officer
- Morningside College
- 1501 Morningside Avenue
- Sioux City, IA 51106
- Attach a note with your application and check indicating which endorsement you are applying for
Note: The Licensure Officer will complete the form, seal it, and send it (with your check) to the BOEE. The State will process your application and send you an updated license.
Application to Add the Master’s Degree to Your License
You add your master’s degree to your license when you renew your license. On the license renewal form you will indicate your date of graduation. If you qualify for a Master Educator License, then at renewal time you will request to have your license converted to a Master Educator License.
Master Educator Requirements: (http://www.boee.iowa.gov/require.html)
- Valid for 5 years
- Renewable under prescribed conditions
- Hold or be eligible for a Standard license.
- Five years of teaching experience.
- Master’s degree in a teaching endorsement area.
- Meets the regency requirement listed under the Class A License.
Be sure to include a copy of your transcript showing completion of the master’s degree when you send in your renewal form.
If you need proof of your master’s degree for your district for a pay scale increase, then all you need to do is request an official transcript from the Registrar’s Office and submit it to your district.
To add your Master of Arts in Teaching degree to your license, please do the following steps:
- Go to the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE) Web page (http://www.state.ia.us/boee/)
- Click on the Renew a License link at the top of the page
- Click on the Convert a Standard to a Master Educator License link

- Print the Application For Conversion Of A Standard To A Master Educator License form
(Note: You may not convert your license earlier than one year from its expiration date.)
- Complete the application making sure that you sign and date it in the appropriate location and include all the supporting information and materials
- Make a check out to the Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE) for the required amount of money (listed on the application)
- Send the completed application, required supporting materials, and check to the BOEE to the address on the application
