Submission of the application for an internship does not ensure approval to do the internship.
Is financial aid available for graduate work?
There is limited financial aid for graduate students. Students interested in applying for financial aid must:
1) be an admitted student in the Morningside College Graduate Program (prior to the start of the semester the student is requesting aid); 2) have completed a 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) www.fafsa.ed.gov and have it sent to Morningside College (Federal School Code 001879); 3) complete and return the Morningside College Financial Aid Application for Graduate Students; and 4) and register each term for a minimum of 6 hours of graduate credit at the Morningside tuition rate for most financial aid (exceptions include Federal TEACH Grant and some private loan assistance). All of these
items must be completed in a timely manner in order for the Office of Student Financial Planning to disburse aid while the student is enrolled during each term. The Morningside Financial Aid Application must be submitted for each term for which financial aid is sought. Students seeking an Endorsement may only receive aid for classes required for that endorsement.

Will I be able to take the Lifelong Learning tax credit on my federal income tax form?
Internal Revenue Service regulations specify that a tax credit of 20% of qualifying expenses
paid to qualifying institutions of higher learning may be taken on the individual’s federal tax
form. Morningside College meets the criteria for qualifying institutions, Area Education Agencies
do not. Therefore, tuition paid directly to Morningside (at the current Morningside rate) qualifies
for the tax credit. However, tuition payments made to AEAs (at a substantially lower tuition rate)
do not qualify for the tax credit. Students who have made tuition payments directly to Morningside
College will automatically be sent the required IRS statement 1098T in January for the previous
calendar year.
What is admission to candidacy?
Students must file a formal petition for admission to candidacy for a master's degree. This is not

Morningside College including EDUC 501 Educational Research. Students must have a 3.0 GPA on this
work. Students must exhibit proficiency in oral and written English based on coursework and file
a program completion plan that includes a self-assessment and goal-setting statement. The application for admission to candidacy must be submitted to the Graduate Office by October 1 of the academic year in which the student plans to graduate.

Morningside's master's degree programs are non-thesis programs. However, there is a writing

must fill out the State of Iowa Application for Licensure, attach the required fee, and return

sent to the State Board of Educational Examiners. The new license is sent directly to the student. These steps are provided in the Procedures for Updating Your License page from the Graduate Web site.
