Curriculum Changes – Fall 2008
The IS1 and IS2 Special Education programs are undergoing revision. The Instructional Strategist I: K-6 and 7-12 programs will see minor changes with the deletion of one course, Principles of Special Education, and the combining of two courses, School/Parent Collaboration and Transitions, into a new course Collaborative Partnerships and Transition. The information from the Principles of Special Education course will be incorporated into the Intro to Mild/Moderate course work.
The Instructional Strategist II: BD/LD and MD programs will be deleting Principles of Special Education from their curriculum and combine the School/Parent Collaboration and Transitions courses into the new course Collaborative Partnerships and Transition. The information from the Principles of Special Education course will be incorporated into the introductory course work. Along with this, Curriculum Development and Assessment will be dropped from the new curriculum. For the MD curriculum the Introduction to Mental Disabilities course will have a new course number and will now be 4 credits.
The Instructional Strategist II: BD/LD program will have the most revision. The introductory course Introduction to BD/LD and the practicum courses Academic Methods and Materials & Practicum and Social and Behavioral Strategies & Practicum are being reconfigured into two 4 credit courses: Learning Disabilities: Theory and Methods & Practicum and Behavioral Disorders: Theory and Methods & Practicum.
Students who have completed SPED 648 Academic Methods and Materials & Practicum and SPED 649 Social and Behavioral Strategies & Practicum will complete the old curriculum. Students who have not completed these two practicum courses will follow the new curriculum. Please contact the Morningside field coordinator for your area to discuss how these changes affect your program of study.
