STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

In the spring Kappa Delta Pi, the student education organization, holds their initiation.  The Morningside chapter encourages excellence in scholarship, high personal standards, improvement in teaching preparation, distinction in achievement, and contributions to education.

In the fall, the Education Department has a pinning ceremony to admit students to the Teacher Preparation Program.  The Iowa Teacher of the Year is the speaker at the program.

The Morningside Chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children (MCCEC) is dedicated to advocating for and improving education outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities.  A major focal point for this student-led organization is to establish cohesive peer groups for future special educators.  The relationships built and maintained with other special educators will become natural supports for the practitioner in the field.

Students in teacher preparation programs are encouraged to become involved with Iowa State Education Association Student Program (ISEA-SP), a student organization affiliated with the Iowa affiliate of the National Education Association.  Members become involved in topics and areas of special interest such as child abuse training, the No Child Left Behind Act, and tips on gaining employment.

Best Buddies of Iowa is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships at Iowa high school and college chapters.  Founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver in 1989, Best Buddies has grown and touched the lives of over 250,000 people.

The Morningside College experience cultivates a passion for life-long learning and a dedication to ethical leadership and civic responsibility.
