Dean of Graduate Studies

Morningside College invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of Graduate Studies.  This position offers the opportunity for a qualified individual to provide dynamic leadership and vision for an expanding graduate education program for teachers and other adult learners seeking professional advancement.  The Dean works closely with college staff and administration to ensure efficient functioning.  The Dean manages the details of the graduate program while keeping focused on the “big picture” of graduate education at Morningside College.

Morningside College offers graduate programming leading to the degree Master of Arts in Teaching and to a variety of teaching endorsements.  Graduate courses are offered on campus and in various sites in and outside of Iowa and in various formats including online delivery.

The Dean is responsible for all aspects of graduate programming including:

  • Ongoing program development and assessment
  • Institutional and state approval for new programs
  • Development of multiple course delivery formats including online
  • Market analysis as it relates to current and new programs and the development of strategic partnerships with external organizations
  • Overseeing and evaluating graduate staff and graduate adjunct faculty
  • Graduate student admissions, retention, and completion
  • Graduate academic support services
  • Strategic planning and budgetary management
  • Assessment of student learning
  • Chairing select graduate committees

The successful candidate for this position will be an entrepreneurial individual with a record of excellence in higher education teaching and/or program administration, experience in multiple course-delivery formats, and the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders.  The candidate will demonstrate the capacity for creative and innovative leadership in curricular and program development; be committed to expanding and enhancing opportunities for graduates; delegate responsibilities wisely, express expectations clearly, and hold colleagues accountable; and be committed to the mission and strategic plan of the college.

Specific qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in education or related field of study
  • Successful administrative experience in broad academic leadership of programs in education
  • Superior written, oral, and interpersonal skills
