The Education Department at Morningside College is accredited by the
Iowa Department of Education. Majors
are available in Elementary Education and Special Education. A
special education major does not stand alone and must be accompanied
by either
an elementary education major or a secondary content major. Content
area majors at Morningside College can complete secondary teaching
and secondary special education course work. Content areas include: Music,
Art, Biology, Chemistry, General Science, Physical Science, English/Language
Arts, Spanish, Mathematics, American Government, American History,
World History. All the information about the Teacher Preparation Program is in the Teacher Education Handbook.
Candidates for the Teacher Preparation Program are required to maintain a 2.5 GPA and to meet minimum Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST) scores. Students must achieve a total composite score of 520 or greater when totaling the reading, writing and math scores, with no individual score lower than 170. The PPST test is given once a year on campus in January. Elementary teaching candidates must pass the Praxis II before licensure. For information about registering for the PPST exam, call Western Iowa Tech at 274-6443 or register online at www.ets.org/praxis. The Praxis II is given twice a year on campus. Teacher Intern Program
